Suspended top cop’s son dies in horror crash

Tributes continue to pour in on social media for Bryan Ngobeni,who died on Sunday

TRIBUTES continue to pour in for Bryan Ngobeni, who died in a horror crash in Durban, early on Sunday morning.

Ngobeni is the son of suspended police commissioner for KwaZulu Natal, Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni and Brigadier Lucas Ngobeni.

The accident, described by a person at the scene as “horrific”- took place at around 2.30am on Umgeni Road, north of Goble Road (Smiso Nkwanyana Road). It is understood that Bryan was driving at the time and that there were two others with him in the car.

Initial reports indicated that the vehicle veered out of control and smashed into a tree on the centre median, before bursting into flames.

Rescue Care spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson said paramedics responded to a single vehicle collision, involving a Polo.

“Paramedics arrived to find that a single vehicle had left the road and collided with a tree. The vehicle was well alight. One person was entrapped in the wreckage and unfortunately passed away.”

“A further two men were found next to the vehicle. Paramedics attempted to treat one critically injured man however his injuries were too severe and both men passed away on the scene,” said Jamieson.

Tributes also continued to pour in on his social media page.

“I can’t explain why these things happen but God’s ways are sometimes beyond human understanding. Absolutely rocked by the news of Bryan Ngobeni passing, he had such fiery passion to achieve his goals. He achieved a lot but had so much potential to do more. Great guy in terms of my understanding experience with him. Salute,” wrote Qiniso Verite Sibiya on Ngobeni’s Facebook wall.

Mmamonnye Ngobeni remains suspended from her post‚ amid controversy surrounding her relationship with businessman Thoshan Panday. She has vowed to fight her suspension‚ taking the matter to court.
