Boost for bottle collection

Grade 7 learners collected bottles for the SA Legion's poppy project.

LEARNERS from Reddam College in Umhlanga contributed towards the SA Legion’s poppy project recently.

Suvarn, Varan and Jed, Grade 7 learners at the school, are participating in a leadership programme and one of the challenges is to organise an event. When they saw the request from the SA Legion in the local newspaper they thought it very apt to hold a plastic collection drive at the school.

What especially caught their attention was the red poppy being a symbol of peace, which is what we are praying for in these troubled times. The idea of the extra bottles being donated to a recycling company to make desks for underprivileged schools was also a motivation.

The boys made flyers which they posted in different areas of the school and left collection boxes at the primary, prep and high school to collect for SA Legion. The bottles were handed over at the collection point at Bike and Bean last week.
