Assist police in robbery investigation

Durban Central police urge the community to help them solve three cases of business robbery in the CBD.

DURBAN Central police are appealing to the community to assist in cases of business robbery they are currently investigating.

According to Colonel Thembeka Mbhele from provincial SAPS, it is alleged that on 7 March at about 6.55pm, a woman was at work in Field Street, Durban, when she was approached by two unknown males who complained about a soft drink they had purchased at the shop.

“While the employees were attending to the complaints the other male forcefully opened the door and threatened the employees to open the tills. They took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled towards the KwaMashu taxi rank,” said Mbhele.

In another incident, it is alleged that on 17 March at about 1.55pm, two men entered a shop in Smith Street, Durban as if they wanted to buy something.

“One man sat on a chair and opened his bag while another was walking around the shop. He then pulled a firearm from inside his bag and pointed it at the employees and told them not to shout. They loaded the clothing into the bag and left,” she said.

Mbhele said in a third incident on 13 March at about 6.28pm, two men entered a shop in Monty Naicker Street, Durban. One pointed a firearm at the cashier and demanded cash.

“Other employees were held hostage and the suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled in an unknown direction,” said Mbhele.

Police believe the men they have CCTV footage of can assist them in solving the case. Anyone with the information of their whereabouts is urged to contact Detective Warrant Officer D Reddy on 031 325 4383 or 084 679 2574 or the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
