Founding librarian, Tannie Rewolwer’s, life explored

Dr Hugh Glen will speak about Mary Gunn, the founding librarian of the Division of Botany.

THE Botanical Society of South Africa KZN Coastal Branch will host an illustrated presentation by Dr Hugh Glen on ‘Tannie Rewolwer’ and the Great Library on Monday, 24 April at Durban Botanic Gardens Visitors Centre, at 6pm.

Mary Gunn was the founding librarian of the then Division of Botany, and the library she started in Pretoria is now named after her. This talk will look at her origins, life and achievements, and celebrate her work in building up the greatest botanical library in Africa, which turned 100 years old last year. Dr Glen is a retired SANBI botanist with an interest in history.

All welcome. Entrance, including refreshments, is R40 for members of BotSoc and Friends of Durban Botanic Gardens, R60 for visitors and R30 for students with cards.
