LOCAL school, Berea Primary School’s choir received a much needed boost ahead of the Talent Africa national competition which will be held in Rooderpoort, on April 7. The choir received 26 pairs takkies from Berea Pick ‘n Pay last week.
Berea Pick ‘n Pay Manager, Rowen Dhanesar said: “This is part of our community outreach programmes. The kids needed our help and as a part of the community we had to help where we could. We hope they are going to do well at the nationals and bring the trophy back home.”
Sherwin Ganasen, the choir conductor said the learners were very excited and happy to receive the takkies. “The donation will go a long way in boosting the kids’ confidence in the competition. We thank Pick ‘n Pay for their generous donation. Preparations are also going well and we cant wait for the competition to start.”
Earlier this year the choir did exceptionally well, bagging second place in their category (vocal) with a score of 89 per cent. The school’s Indian Dance Group also received a special award for the best performance. All provincial winners will be taking part at the nationals for a place in the SA team. The winning SA team will get an opportunity to travel to New York City to compete in the Talent America International Competition in July this year. The KZN schools which participated in the competition include Amanzimtoti Primary School, Kuswag, Kingsway High, Berea Primary School, Crawford College, Durban Dance Unlimited, Queensburgh Girls’ High, Curro Hillcrest as well as a number of individual entries from the province.
Talent Africa competition aims to give artists with the relevant talent the best opportunity to be exposed to all that the entertainment world can offer on both a national and international level. Talent Africa, through possible partnership with government and NGO’s, could offer less privileged individuals a fair chance to receive the correct training and expertise to ultimately be part of this grand event.
