THE successful HOP Shop run by NPO, Likhon iThemba, is expanding to new premises at 121 Helen Joseph Road, Glenwood.
According to founder, Kim Brown, the charity shop, which started in October last year, received such great support from the community that more space was needed
“We needed to expand and when this building became available, we saw it was the perfect space. We are joining up with other NPOs so there will be different things to see and different things happening for different charities,” she said.
The building, which will be called Bojangles House, will include the HOP Shop as the main feature, as well as a small coffee shop, a room dedicated to NPO Action Through Art, which produces surf wear with African artwork on it, with proceeds going to various charities, and the outside garage will be used by the Bike Kitchen, whose mission is to promote bicycles as a fun, accessible and safe form of transport. It will be a space where the community can learn about building, maintaining and riding bicycles in Durban.
“We are aiming for a bohemian, eclectic vibe at the house and hope we continue to get good support from the community in this venture,” said Kim.
She encouraged the community to keep donating items such as ladies’ clothing, which is the biggest seller, furniture and any unwanted items which can be resold.
She said they hoped to include a new boutique women’s clothing section in the HOP Shop. All money will be donated to Likhon iThemba.
The Bojangles House will officially open to the public on Saturday, 25 March, and there will be a grand opening with live music and food on sale from 10am to 3pm.
The house will be open weekdays from 8.30am to 4.30pm and on Saturdays from 9am to 12.30pm.
