Morningside problem areas highlighted

"A few areas of concern were identified and action plans put in place to deal with these."

PROBLEM areas in Morningside were pointed out to officials from various municipal departments during a walk-about in the area last week.

Ward 27 councillor, Martin Meyer, was joined by officials from Business Licencing, Metro Police and the eThekwini Evironmental Health Departments on an oversight visit around the intersection of Smiso Nkwanyana (Goble) and Lillian Ngoyi (Windermere) Roads.

The group identified problem areas and visited and engaged with businesses in the area.

“Business is a vital part of the ward as it creates jobs, brings visitors to our ward, and plays a role in forming the culture of the ward, however, sometimes challenges occur when businesses and residential properties share the same space,” said Meyer.

He said the purpose of the visit was to investigate residents’ and business owners’ concerns, put corrective measures in place where required. It was also an opportunity to encourage businesses who were following rules and regulations, to continue to do so and to bring this to the attention of residents.

“A few areas of concern were identified and action plans were put in place to deal with these,” he said.

One of the issues raised and whichr Meyer is asking people in the area for assistance with, is to identify individuals responsible for dumping motor or industrial oil in stormwater drains in the area.

“If anyone sees someone doing this, please take a photo of the offender, including the car with a registration number, but only do this if it is safe to do so,” he said.

Residents can send the photos to Meyer at ward27@ethekwini.org.
