If you can hold a tune, then this choir needs you!

The Retired Teachers' Association and Friends Choir is hoping to attract new singers.

CALLING all singers. The Retired Teachers’ Association and Friends Choir is looking for new members.

The choir, which meets every Tuesday in Morningside from 2pm to 4pm, is made up of retired teachers and other people from the community who enjoy singing. The choir performs four times a year and is currently looking forward to two upcoming shows at Eden Roc and Eden Crescent old age homes.

Choir member, Patrick Coyne, said: “Our choir is made up of retired teachers, but we now have others in the choir who aren’t teachers as there aren’t enough elderly teachers who can sing! We have lost a lot of members who have moved away from the area and we have a shortage of tenors and sopranos.”

Patrick said thanks to recent publicity, 10 new members have joined the choir but additional new members are welcome.

“As long as you can hold a tune, it is perfect as we sing in unison,” he said.

Patrick said the choir is currently made up of 15 women and eight men, adding that finding male singers was a challenge.

Another challenge the choir faced was funding. “We are self-funded,” he said.

If you are interested in joining the choir, contact Patrick on 031 572 3077 or 082 484 6900.
