Talk on roadside ecology

The City has now embarked on an exciting pilot roadside ecology programme in Shongweni that includes new ways of managing indigenous species on verges.

A TALK on a Road Reserve Conservation Pilot Project, takes place on Monday, 13 March at Durban Botanic Gardens Visitors Centre at 6pm.

The talk will be presented by Lance Rasmussen, manager of Special Services at eThekwini Parks Department.

Municipal residential verges have been subject to heavy-handed brush-cutting that damage or remove indigenous vegetation, including declining indigenous terrestrial orchid species. The City has now embarked on an exciting pilot roadside ecology programme in Shongweni that includes new ways of managing indigenous species on verges.

Entrance, including refreshments is R40 for members of BotSoc and Friends of Durban Botanic Gardens, R60 for visitors and R30 for students with cards.

No need to book, pay at the door. Proceeds go to BotSoc branch projects.
