Deadline looms for undocumented Lesotho nationals

Basotho nationals are urged to submit documents to regularise their stay in the country.

UNDOCUMENTED Lesotho nationals who made payment for the Lesotho Special Permit (LSP) before or on 31 December 2016 have until end of this month to submit outstanding documents in order to complete the application process that will regularise their stay in South Africa. Applicants who have proof of payment should visit their nearest LSP Application Centre to submit outstanding documents before the deadline. The process is for undocumented Basotho who work, study or do business in South Africa.

Lesotho nationals who applied with Lesotho ID cards or birth certificates with ID numbers, but did not present a valid passport or have outstanding documents, must provide all supporting documents before the deadline, to finalise their application. A total number of 95 667 applications have been processed. Of these 61 291 have been adjudicated by the Department of Home Affairs and to date, 36 784 permits have been collected.

Employment or affidavit from employer, business registration with SARS and CIPRO, registration with an educational institution, must be registered on the National Population Register system of Lesotho and a have a Lesotho ID card or a birth certificate with an ID number to qualify for the LSP. Lesotho nationals who are in South Africa for less than 12 months also need to have a police clearance certificate from Lesotho that is not more than six-months old. The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) in South Africa will obtain the South African Police Service clearance on behalf of all LSP applicants

All those who have paid, but have not completed the application process or made no attempt to regularise their stay will face serious consequences. Basotho are also encouraged to phone the VFS Global call-centre on 087 230 0411 to get a status of their application or visit an LSP application centre at 36 Silverton Road, Silverton Oaks Building, Musgrave, Durban.
