Man rescued at harbour

“The crew then set out to rescue a man that had fallen two metres from a pier at the harbour entrance."

NETCARE 911 was called to Durban Harbour on Friday night to rescue a man who had fallen off a pier.

According to Chris Botha, at around 7.33pm, Netcare 911 received a call to send one of its advanced life support paramedics to the NSRI base so that they can go aboard one of the rescue boats.

“The crew then set out to rescue a man that had fallen two metres from a pier at the harbour entrance and was trapped on the concrete blocks,” he said.

He said in a joint operation with all the police rescue and firemen managed to pull the man back onto the pier.

“NSRI took the Netcare 911 paramedic across the harbour where he then got on board the ambulance to treat the seriously injured man. The patient was then transported to a Durban hospital for further care,” he said.
