Residents warned to be aware of fraudsters

Councillor Chris Pappas is urging residents to be aware of people claiming to represent departments in the municipality.

RESIDENTS are urged to be wary of people and companies claiming to represent the municipality.

This comes after an apparent increase in a number of incidents where people pose as municipal employees from various departments.

Ward 31 councillor, Chris Pappas, said this ranged from people claiming to read meters, delivering bin bags, doing infrastructure surveys to people who claimed to represent Metro Police, office bearers of the city and even the SAPS.

“Please make sure you ask for ID. Municipal employees will carry a form of ID.”

“Equally as important are residents who claim to represent politicians in the city but do not have the legal authority to do so. Always ask for written proof or proper ID,” said Pappas.

He said if residents were unsure, they could contact him via WhatsApp on 081 017 6622 and he would check with the relevant area managers.

“Let us be crime and fraud wise,” said Pappas.
