New children’s books for SA market

Pan Macmillan hosted an annual get-together with UK publishers to present the latest children's books for the SA market.

DISTRIBUTORS of children’s books in the county and from the UK, as well as book sellers and library suppliers, gathered at The Benjamin Hotel last week to view the new books on the market for 2017.

Graham Isaacs, sales manager for Pan Macmillan Gauteng and KZN, said this was an international company with its office in London, UK, and also represented key children’s imprints which were distributed in the country, such as Hachette Children’s Group, Walker Books, Priddy Books and a bigger range of Macmillan Children’s Books.

“We have a whole selection of books such as fiction, novelty and early childhood development which cater for school and public libraries to people buying for their homes, and this is a special day for us where we bring out international visitors to showcase the highlights for 2017, and where the children’s books released in 2017 are presented,” he said.

He said this was an annual event, and launches were held in Johannesburg, Durban and then Cape Town, before the representatives from the companies travelled back to London.

“We invite book sellers, the media, and library suppliers from public to schools, to view the new books on the market. We are excited that the international publishers have realised the need for books which are indigenous to us and Priddy Books have now published books in Zulu and Xhosa for the market. A new book by Priddy is The Big Book of South African Animals, which has been published especially for our market. These books will definitely do well with the locals as well as international buyers,” said Graham.
