Suncoast treats brave queens for the day

“As the Reach for a Dream Foundation, we believe that it is important to constantly be in contact with each patient. Projects such as Queen for a Day help us to stay in touch and interact with the dreamers.”

ELEVEN of Durban’s youngest and bravest girls from the Reach for a Dream Foundation (RFAD) were treated like queens when they attended the ‘Queen for a Day’ initiative hosted by Suncoast Casino, Hotels and Entertainment recently.

Founded over 28 years ago, RFAD has been bringing hope, joy and healing to countless South African children between the ages of three to 18 years old, who on a daily basis continually fight life-threatening illnesses such as cancer and leukemia, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, renal failure and various blood disorders.

Aside from making dreams come true for children battling life threatening illnesses, the RFAD, through their sponsors and donors, also have various projects they use to engage with dreamers before and after they have made their dream come true. These include Show You Care Send A Bear, Superheroes Campaign, Camp Sunshine, Captain Courage, Jabulani, Family Focus and Queen For a Day.

“As the Reach for a Dream Foundation, we believe that it is important to constantly be in contact with each patient and ensure that they do not lose hope in their battle with their illness. Projects such as Queen for a Day help us to stay in touch and interact with the dreamers,” said RFAD KZN Projects and Outings Coordinator, Sagri Mudly.

The Queen for a Day initiative is designed to lift the spirits and build the confidence and self-esteem of little girls fighting life-threatening illnesses. Each girl was treated to a manicure and pedicure at the Suncoast Spa, modelling lessons, awarded their sash and crowned queen before being treated to lunch, on the Suncoast Towers Pool Deck area.

“It was an honour to host these inspiring young ladies while they were being pampered and treated like queens. We applaud the work of organisations like Reach for a Dream and appreciate the opportunity to assist where we can,” said Suncoast Communications Manager, Kelly Graham.
