Berea SAPS urges the community to help identify a woman and help with information about the circumstances surrounding her death.

Help identify woman

BEREA SAPS are looking for anyone with information which will help identify a deceased African woman who was taken to Addington Hospital on 16 December.

The woman was found lying on the road near Botanic Gardens, Berea.

“On arrival at the hospital the lady was found to be dead. The deceased was around 23 years old. The body was sent to Gale Street Mortuary where a post mortem was conducted. There were two stab wounds on her lower back,” said Capt PN Naidoo from Berea SAPS.

Anyone with any information about this case and the identity of the woman is urged to contact Det/Const WS Bunting from Berea Detectives on 031 312 2345 or 084 449 6324.

Unlicensed weapon seized

TWO men were arrested after being found in possession of an unlicensed firearm in Morningside on Friday.

Capt Naidoo said at around 8.30pm, Capt Stephens and his team were patrolling along Rosetta Road, Morningside and noticed two suspicious looking men walking at the intersection of Rosetta and Lambert Roads.

“They stopped and searched them and found one in possession of a firearm which did not belong to him. He could not give a reasonable explanation for being in possession of that firearm so they were both arrested,” he said.

Awareness

BEREA SAPS urges residents to try put valuables such as gas bottles, camp chairs, garden tools and hosepipes out of the view of the public or to lock them away.

“Do not leave the garage door open and valuables exposed, and always keep your gates locked.

Report all suspicious persons and vehicles to the police,” he said.
