Hijacking spike concerns Mayville police

Police have urged urged the public to immediately report any suspicious vehicles.

MAYVILLE police are calling on residents to be vigilant at all times following the increase in carjacking cases which were reported recently.

Warrant Officer Patrick Zithulele Ngwane said, “Suspicious vehicles should be reported immediately to the police emergency number 10111. When reporting the vehicle, the following information should be helpful to the police: the colour, model, registration number and the number of occupants in the vehicle.”

He also urged residents to never leave their vehicles unattended while the ignition is switched on. “When you are in a hijacking situation, try to remain calm and don’t show any signs of aggression. Do as you are told and never argue with the hijackers. Remember that they are very nervous as well, keep your hands still and where the hijacker can see them to reassure him of your passive intent. Remember you can replace your car, but not your life,” Ngwane said.
