Dream big says Chuma-J

musician wants to make a mark.

HE is a taxi driver, a third year Public Management student at the Durban University of Technology, a father and now has added a new feather to his cap.

Twenty-two-year-old Wandile Chamu has just released a new house track, titled Angel.

Chamu-J, his stage name, says the song is is fusion of rhythm and blues and house music.

“The song is inspired by love, my love for the music, my son and people. I have been in the game for 4 years now and although it is difficult, my passion and need to succeed has kept me going. Having a son has also made me work even harder. I want to be a positive role model for him” he says.

Even though the young musician seems to manage juggling fatherhood, school and work as a taxi driver on the side, he admits there have been times when he wanted to give up but his passion for music and his son kept him going.

“Driving my father’s taxis has taught me a lot. It has made me understand that success is hard work and the money I make from it, helps support my music career. As an independent artist you have to hustle, to pay for studio time, travelling to gigs and making sure you are always presentable.” he said.

He credits Digger for producing the song and has also worked with other up and coming producers like Genius Brown and DJ Captain.

Some of his biggest career highlights so far include opening for some of the industry’s big names like DJ Merlon and Mondli Ngcobo at Urban lounge, and also performing at Vuma FM music events. Travelling and collaborating with some of the industry heavyweights is also in his plans for the future.

“I would also love to work with Black Coffee, Zakes Batwini, Shota and Shimza. Once I am established. I would love to travel locally because I want my people to know about my music.” he said.

He says the song will be hitting the airwaves very soon, but for now you can get it for free on https://www.datafilehost.com/d/19877067 or by visiting his facebook page, Chamu-J or twitter @Chamu-J.
