UNISA protests cause chaos in Durban CBD
Police are responding to a protest by prospective UNISA students who are allegedly throwing rocks at passing cars in KE Masinga Road.
PROSPECTIVE UNISA students have blocked roads in the Durban CBD as part of protest action allegedly linked to a staff strike that has prevented students from registering.
Reports have been received that students are throwing rocks at vehicles passing the campus on KE Masinga (Old Fort) Road.
Metro police have called for public order policing assistance. SAPS spokesman Lt Col Thulani Zwane said police were responding to the situation.
This follows the protest action that was reported along Justice Mohammed Road yesterday.
On Tuesday the ANC Youth League also caused chaos outside the ABSA Bank on Anton Lembede Street in Durban, demanding that the financial service provider pay back an amount of R2-billion rand – which they claim was illegally obtained during the apartheid era.
