Microchip your pet

Pet owners are encouraged to microchip their animals to ensure they can be reunited if they are lost or stolen.

IF your pet hasn’t been microchipped, a local organisation is encouraging pet owners to take the drive to attend a microchipping day on Sunday, 29 January at the Padfield Park municipal park. Harry’s Pet Rescue will be microchipping animals from 11am at a cost of R150.

According to Jill Murraybrown from the organisation, it has become important to microchip your pet.

“A microchipped animal can be reunited with its family immediately. However safe one might feel about their enclosed property, there are many ingenious ways dogs are lured,” she said.

A fundraising mini-market is being held on the day, and there will be stalls selling various items. Take a tinned pet food or packets of pet biscuits which will be donated towards Harry’s Pet Rescue and other organisations depending on the amount donated.

The microchip is not much larger than a grain of rice.
