Carjackers arrested
TWO men were arrested following a carjacking in Bellevue Road, Berea, on 18 January.
According to Capt PN Naidoo, The vehicle was fitted with a tracker, and about an hour after the carjacking, the vehicle was recovered in Pinetown.
“Two suspects were arrested by the K9 Unit and Pinetown SAPS. This was possible because of the quick response of the police and with the help of the tracker,” said Naidoo.
He said one of the suspects involved in the carjacking was shot and killed at the scene and another suspect got away with the get-away vehicle, a white Audi.
“The hijacked vehicle and a firearm were recovered,” he said.
Housebreakers detained
CAPTAIN K Stephens and his team received information about a housebreaking that had taken place and patrolled the area on 18 January.
With the help of security company MI 7, two suspects in a white VW Polo were arrested and a TV was recovered.
The suspects were detained at Berea SAPS.
Fit a vehicle tracker
CAPTAIN Naidoo said it has been noticed that vehicles fitted with a tracking device have a higher percentage of being recovered.
“The police would like to encourage the public to look at fitting their vehicle with a tracking device. There were a few instances where the docket for theft of motor vehicles were not registered but the vehicle was already recovered,” he said.
Vehicle recovered
GOOD work was done by Berea SAPS Flying Squad members on Monday. According to Naidoo, a vehicle was stolen in Montpelier Road, Morningside and within an hour the vehicle was recovered in KwaMakutha and the owner informed.
Awareness
CAPTAIN Naidoo issued warnings to the community, urging them to be vigilant.
“Do not park your vehicle in dark isolated areas and do not sit in your vehicles at night.
When approaching your residence be alert, check that you are not being followed.
Watch for suspicious persons or vehicles in your area and report all suspicious persons or vehicles to the police. Try not to be a hero on your own,” he said.
