Glenwood school recognised for its pass rate performance

The local school achieved a 100 per cent matric pass rate, its best performance since its inception in 2003.

IN recognition of their excellent performance in the 2016 matric exams, Camelot College in Glenwood has been awarded a certificate of excellence by the Umlazi district education.

The local school achieved a 100 per cent matric pass rate, its best performance since its inception in 2003. The school enrolls young people who have learning difficulties like dyslexia, ADD or ADHD.

The school’s principal, Pat Strachan, says their success is attributed to the dedication and hard work on the part of staff and learners.

“Last year was our 4th Grade 12 class. We are delighted that we attained a 100 per cent pass rate and congratulate staff and learners alike. As a school that enrolls learners who have learning difficulties, we needed everyone to be dedicated and the staff really put in a great effort, but without the learners’ hard work we couldn’t have achieved the 100 per cent pass rate. The parents have also been very supportive and so involved the kids education. The environment we have here, which ensures that learners get individual attention, also helps the learners to perform better,” she said.

The curriculum run by the school is as prescribed by the Education Department. The school offers a variety of activities which include pottery, electronics, cooking, jewellery making and ceramics.

Strachan further added that, this year they anticipate another 100 per cent pass rate and would also be aiming for bachelor passes.

There are 111 schools that achieved 100 per cent pass rate. The Gauteng Province had the lion’s share of these 100% pass rate schools with 32 schools, followed by the Western Cape with 31, KwaZulu-Natal 19, Free State 12, Eastern Cape 7, Mpumalanga and North West with 3 each, and Limpopo and Northern Cape with 2 each.
