IT was a successful week for the Berea SAPS after they thwarted the efforts of several alleged thieves.
On 6 January a man was arrested by police for theft out of motor vehicle. At 6.30pm, the owner of a vehicle, which was parked on Cowey Road, Greyville, heard the alarm go off. When he went to investigate he noticed a man fleeing from the vehicle and called the police who responded quickly and gave chase.
The man was arrested and the property recovered. He was charged with theft out of motor vehicle.
Then, on 8 January police nabbed man in possession of stolen property. At around 8am, a man was walking at the intersection of Lambert and Rosetta roads carrying an extension cord.
According to Capt PN Naidoo from Berea SAPS, he approached a security guard and tried to sell him the item.
“The security guard phoned the police who responded and questioned the suspect, who admitted he had taken it from a certain premises. He was charged with being in possession of property suspected to be stolen,” he said.
After further investigation it was established that the man had been involved in other housebreaking cases in the area and will be linked to these.
