Shots fired in botched hijacking

Hijackers battled to start a hijacked car and abandoned it before fleeing on foot.

HIJACKERS fired a shot at a motorist as they fled the scene of a botched hijacking in Glenmore on Tuesday night.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said hijackers held up a motorist who had just arrived to visit his girlfriend and had parked his car in Dan Piennaar Road at around 7.15pm.

“Two hijackers held up the motorist at gunpoint, demanding that he hand over his keys and cellphone. The hijackers then jumped into his car and the motorist ran down the road to get away from the gang,” he said.

He said the hijackers battled to start the car and abandoned it before fleeing on foot towards nearby Baines Road where they jumped into a black Golf.

“As they fled the scene they fired a shot at another motorist who happened to be in the area at the time,” he said.

Jackson said Umbilo SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
