Comedy line-up a must-see

The second annual Savanna Durban Summer Comedy Festival will run from 14 to 17 December.

GET ready to exercise those laughter muscles as 32 top South African comedians perform six shows over four days in and around Durban for the second annual Savanna Durban Summer Comedy Festival from 14 to 17 December.

The line-up is made up of both local Durban comics and some of the biggest names in comedy from around the country. Catch comedy greats like Loyiso Gola, Marc Lottering, Joey Rasdien, John Vlismas, Deep Fried Man, Ndumiso Lindi, Robby Collins – as well as local funny-people Arnotte Payne, Aaron McIlroy, Kelvin Stoffels, Jem Atkins, Neville Pillay, Kwanda Radebe and many more.

 

On Wednesday, 14 December there will be a “no rules” comedy show-down with SA comedic legend, John Vlismas, hosting some of the funniest acts in the country where absolutely anything goes and no topic is off-limits. Catch John Vlismas with Jem Atkins, Alfred Adriaan, Kwanda Radebe, Tyson Heffer, Bob Perfect and Masood B at Amsterdam Restaurant and Bar (143 Helen Joseph Road, Glenwood at 8.30pm. Tickets cost R70.

On Thursday, 15 December, catch one of Durban’s most popular comedians Neville Pillay as he hosts a very special comedy show at New York Restaurant and Bar (101 Innes Road, Morningside) at 8.30pm. Joey Rasdien headlines, along with appearances by Musa, Venessa Morton, Shannon Rice, Mfundo, Andrew Hughes, Ntshebe, Rory Petzer, Davin M, Sbu Mnyanda and Tibs. Tickets cost R70.

The Durban Jewish Centre (North Beach) hosts John Vlismas, Joey Rasdien, Deep Fried Man, Khanyisa Bunu, Ndumiso Lindi, Arnotte Payne and Robby Collins in a two-hour stand-up comedy showdown at 8.30pm on Thursday, 15 December. Tickets cost R150.

On Friday, 16 December there will be an interactive, lively talk show focused on the “Business of Funny” at Durban Jewish Centre with host, John Vlismas, and a panel of guests and celebrities, including Marc Lottering and Lisa Bobbert-McKilroy. Learn from the experts about the fascinating business side of comedy and how to be successful, as we explore the comedy industry and Durban’s place in it. The show is at 2pm. Tickets cost R130.

The second round of two massive gala shows, this time featuring the Loyiso Gola, Marc Lottering, Neville Pillay, Alfred Adriaan, Deep Fried Man, Khanyisa Bunu, and Ndumiso Lindi will be at Durban Jewish Centre on Friday, 16 December at 8.30pm. Tickets cost R150.

On Saturday 17 December, it’s the festival finalé and it is #ProudlyDurban. Catch local favourite, comedian Jem Atkins, as he hosts a stellar line-up featuring eight of the funniest comedians to ever come out of Durban at The Plant (5 Station Drive, Morningside) at 8.30pm. The line-up incluAaron Mcilroy, Jem Atkins, Robby Collins, Kelvin Stoffels, Mo Vawda, Some Blaqq Guy, Annalakshmi, Troy Tesla and Daryl Williams. Tickets cosy R120.
