Young cooks feed the underprivileged

Saints Cooks prepared potjie kos for children from local children's homes today.

YOUNG cooks fed children from different orphanages and the underprivileged in Berea Park today.

The idea was the brain child of a group of people who wanted to do something to give back to the community.

According to Estelle Anderson, she and Zane Jacobs were having drinks at La Bella recently and were chatting to the owner, Kiruben Naidoo and his wife Sharon, and they came up with the idea to cook food for children who were in need.

Zane, who owns a catering company, decided to get some of his young chefs to help him prepare and cook potjie kos for children from various children’s homes in the area.

“One of the local girls, Jada Gabriel came to me one day to ask if she could learn how to cook, so we thought it was a good idea. We advertised it and got a group of youngsters from the Sydenham area together, who are now in training as the Saints Cooks. Jada along with three of the other girls are helping today,” said Zane.

Sharon Naidoo said they had wanted to do something in the community to bless others, especially children at this time of the year.

La Bella provided activities, jumping castles and music to keep the children entertained and oxtail potjie was also on sale to the community after the children had their fill.
