Driver arrested after collision leaves biker critical
One man is in a critical condition in hospital while another was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in Musgrave last night.
POLICE arrested a man on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless and negligent driving after the vehicle he was driving was involved in a collision with a biker and another vehicle on Essenwood Road near Ashford Place on Saturday evening.
The biker sustained severe injuries and is in a critical condition in a Durban hospital. The driver in the second vehicle sustained moderate injuries and required stabilising before being taken to hospital.
Rescue Care’s Garrith Jamieson said their advanced life support paramedic arrived on the scene to find the critically injured biker on the roadway. He was placed on a ventilator on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care,” he explained.
Jamieson said the exact cause of the collision is unknown at this stage.
A police officer at the scene confirmed one of the drivers had been arrested on charges of reckless and negligent driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.
