Young man killed in early morning collision

A YOUNG man lost his life in the early hours of this morning in a collision close to Tollgate Bridge.

According to Rescue Care’s Ceron Lennox, two others sustained serious injuries after the vehicle they were in collided into the rear of a vehicle on the N3 Pinetown bound near Tollgate Bridge just after 3.30am this morning.

“Paramedics arrived to find the badly damaged vehicles blocking most of the highway. On assessment, it was found that the man in his twenties was entrapped in the wreckage. He had sustained major injuries and unfortunately there was nothing more paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene,” she said.

Lennox said the Durban Fire Department had to use the jaws of life to free the man from the wreckage. “Two other occupants from the vehicle had sustained critical injuries and were stabilised by advanced life support paramedics on the scene before transporting them to hospital,” she said.

At this stage the exact cause of the collision is unknown, however SAPS are investigating.
