Don’t fall victim to vehicle scam, warn cops

Berea police have received reports of a new scam were criminals are targeting victims of car theft.

VICTIMS who have had their vehicles stolen are being warned not to fall prey to scam artists. According to Captain PN Naaidoo , communications officers at Berea SAPS, police have been made aware of a new scam which targets people who have reported their vehicles stolen .

“Criminals are managing to get their hands on the contact details of the victims of theft of motor vehicles. The scam artists then contact the complainants and inform them that if they deposit a certain amount of money through an “e-wallet,” their vehicle will be delivered to them,” he said.

Naidoo appealed to victims of car theft to be very wary when dealing with important information over the phone or even online.
