Vet students reach out to CROW

Ondersepoort Veterinary Institution’s RAG (Reach out and Give) committee nominated CROW as their chosen charity to support in 2016.

DURBAN-BASED Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) received a generous donation of R100 000 from a student body in Pretoria recently.

Onderstepoort Veterinary Institution’s RAG (Reach out and Give) committee nominated CROW as their chosen charity to support in 2016, and the students held several fundraising events throughout the year during RAG events week such as a wine tasting, quiz evening and their very own Bierfest to help raise funds for the centre.

Bianca Borrageiro, the chairman of the committee says supporting CROW is a worthy cause.

“Being veterinary students we are interested in wildlife. We decided to donate to CROW because we really think they are an amazing organisation,” said Borrageiro.

CROW marketing and communications officer, Sharl Els said the centre was overwhelmed by the generosity of the RAG committee.

“We are absolutely blown away by this amazing donation. On behalf of the CROW team we would like to thank the students for nominating our organisaton and for raising such a considerable sum of money,” he said.

The wildlife rehabilitation centre is one of South Africa’s longest serving wildlife rehabilitation centres. Some 3 000 injured, orphaned and displaced indigenous animals are treated at the centre each year. For more information about CROW, contact 031 462 1127.
