Pensioners treated to Christmas lunch

Local businesses banded together to serve a Christmas lunch to residents at Natal Settlers' Coronation House on Saturday.

NATAL Settlers/ Coronation House residents were treated to a Christmas lunch, thanks to the combined efforts of seven local businesses and the Glenwood Presbyterian Church.

The home in Umbilo houses over 60 residents, many of whom are disabled and require frail care. They were treated to a delicious lunch accompanied by live music which took them down memory lane. After lunch there was a special visit from Santa himself who handed out a gift to each resident.

According to Hayley Marot from Marot and Sanders, the intention of this event is to reach out to the community. “The old folk within our community are often completely overlooked and forgotten and we wanted to show these folk, who themselves were once active participants and contributors to society, that they are not forgotten. This is our small way of contributing to this very worthy cause and not only giving our resources but our time to serve them and spend time with them,” she said.

The businesses involved in this initiative were Dirks Davenport, Peppers and Pans catering, Marot and Sanders Advertising, Rotary, Remax Address, Idube Safety and Davenport Square as well voluntary musicians, Stephen Abrahams on vocals and Stanley Lipschitz on keyboard otherwise known as Steve and Stan.

“We thank everyone who gave of their time to assist on the day and contributed to making this day a huge success,” said Hayley.
