Security officer arrests housebreaker

A vigilant Blue Security officer apprehended a housebreaker in Glenmore.

A QUICK thinking armed response officer arrested an alleged housebreaker who was fleeing from a property in Glenmore in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said the officer had responded to a panic alarm in Queen Mary Avenue at around 4.30am.

“A resident heard the sound of glass breaking on his property and pressed his panic button. He went to investigate and saw a suspect on the property who fled with his accomplice when the resident shouted at him,” he said.

The officer arrived at the scene within minutes and chased down the suspects. He arrested one of the suspects and recovered a laptop.

Jackson said it was later established that the suspects had jumped over the front wall and tampered with the CCTV surveillance camera before forcing open the window of the study. Umbilo SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
