Morningside: Suspects arrested, firearm recovered

Berea police made a successful arrest of two suspects and recovered a firearm of the suspects on Monday morning.

BEREA SAPS Crime Prevention team made an important arrest in their fight against crime in Morningside this week.

According to Captain PN Naidoo, Berea crime prevention officers were patrolling along Avondale Road opposite the main entrance of Greyville Racecourse around 9.30am when they noticed two suspicious men looking into cars which were parked along the road.
“The officers stopped and searched the suspects and found a firearm 9mm CZ 75 firearm on one of the suspects. The other suspect was in possession of car breaking implements and an allan key. The serial number was also filed off the firearm,” he explained.
Naidoo said the officers immediately arrested the two suspects (27 and 29) and detained them at SAPS Berea on charges of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition as well as possession of car breaking implements. He added police were currently investigating whether the suspects are linked to other cases.
