Claim your pets, says SPCA

Durban and Coast SPCA said three dogs had to be put to sleep following injuries over the weekend.

ANIMALS bore the brunt of the festivities over the weekend, with the Durban and Coast SPCA reporting that eight dogs and one cat had been brought in to the kennels at the weekend.

Lindsey Concer, Income Development and Communications Manager, said of these eight dogs, three of them had severe injuries that appeared to have been caused by the dogs being hit by a car.

“One was unfortunately dead on arrival and the other two had to be humanely euthanased in order to end their suffering. On Monday alone we took in 20 dogs and 47 cats. Of these there was one more injured dog and one injured cat,” she said.

Concer said of these 28 dogs and 48 cats none were microchipped or wearing any form of identification.

“There were thankfully no reports of firework-related cruelty,” she said.

Concer said the SPCA had received five missing cat reports and 35 missing dog reports from the public.

She said owners who had lost their pets should contact their local SPCA with a lost report and go in to view the stray animals.
