Security officer arrests mugger

A security officer chased down and arrested an alleged mugger who robbed a pedestrian on the Berea.

A BLUE Security armed response officer chased down and arrested an alleged mugger who robbed a pedestrian in King Dinuzulu (Berea) Road at the weekend.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said the victim had flagged down the armed response officer as he was driving past Berea Centre just before noon on Friday.

“The traumatised victim advised our officer that he had just been mugged by two men who stole his cellphone. The men had also tried to take his wallet but the victim wrestled with his attackers who then fled the scene with his cellphone,” Jackson said.

Jackson said the man gave the officer a description of the muggers and they both went in search of the suspects.

“Our officer drove in the direction the men had fled towards the busy Warwick Junction area where he managed to find the suspects near the market. He arrested one of the alleged muggers and recovered the victim’s cellphone,” he said.

The suspect was taken to the Umbilo police station where the officer and the victim were redirected to Berea police station to open a case.
