Toddler drowns in swimming pool

A toddler drowned in a swimming pool at a home in Glenmore this afternoon.

A 23 month old baby drowned in a swimming pool in Glenmore around 2pm today.

According to Garrith Jamieson from Rescue Care, paramedics were called to the home by neighbourhood watch members after receiving the frantic call.

“Advanced Life Support Paramedics arrived on the scene to find that unfortunately the child had already passed away. Nothing more could be done for the child and the child was declared deceased at the scene,” he said.

Jamieson said at this stage the exact circumstances leading up to the drowning are unknown, however Umbilo SAPS were in attendance and will be investigating further.

“Rescue Care Paramedics urge home owners to take the necessary precaution with pools. Please install pool nets and gates to prevent these unfortunate incidents from occurring,” said Jamieson.
