Azraa wins national entrepreneurship competition

A Ridge Park College pupil recently won R20 000 after being placed third at this year’s JA South Africa Junior Innovators Competition.

AZRAA Jonkers, a Ridge Park College pupil, was recently placed third at this year’s JA South Africa Junior Innovators Competition, held in partnership with Investec at its offices in Sandton recently.

Azraa was awarded a cash prize of R20 000 for her innovative escalator rail steriliser business idea. The Escalator Rail Steriliser is a fitted rectangular container filled with disinfectant that is the width of the hand rail and releases disinfectant by a remote-timed sensor every thirty seconds.

Now in its fifth year, the competition acknowledges the growing importance of entrepreneurial and skills development among Grade 10 and 11 learners.
