Stand up against women abuse

The community is encouraged to take a stand against abuse of women and children in the #1000Women1Voice campaign.

THE #1000Women1Voice awareness campaign invites people to take a stand on behalf of all South African women and girls who are abused.

An event will be held at Tsogo Sun, Garden Court, South Beach on 3 November from 9am to 1pm and the proceeds will go to strengthening women-led initiatives across the country that work tirelessly to bring hope, protection and knowledge to women living in abusive relationships.

“This cause touches many families in our communities and we can only be the change in someone else’s life when we make a choice to participate,” said Melanie Daniels from the 1000 Women Trust.

Statistics reveal that one out of every four women in South Africa is in an abusive relationship, that every six days a woman in South Africa is murdered by her intimate partner and that every 25 seconds a woman or girl is raped in South Africa.

“These shocking statistics are not new to us and therefore we are appealing to the community to partner with us in changing the life of even one woman or girl,” said Melanie.
