High seas, gales force beach closure

Durban beaches have been closed after the Sharks Board advised that it had lifted shark nets due to bad weather conditions.

HIGH seas and strong winds along Durban’s coast have forced the closure of city beaches after the Sharks Board lifted shark nets because of the adverse weather conditions.
It was reported earlier this afternoon that sea swells of up to 4 metres could be seen in Durban with south easterly winds reaching speeds of up to 15km per hour. The city’s head of Parks and Recreation, Thembinkosi Ngcobo said the Sharks Board would assess the conditions early tomorrow morning before advising the city whether or not to reopen the beaches. He said it was hoped the conditions would improve by tomorrow.
