Mayville SAPS recover vehicle

Mayville SAPS made a good arrest and recovered a vehicle two weeks after the victim was attacked.

A HIJACKED vehicle was recovered by Mayville SAPS officers last week.

According to Warrant Officer PZ Ngwane, communications officer at SAPS Mayville, the stolen vehicle, a black Mercedes Benz C200 Compressor was hijacked on 9 September in the Cato Manor area. Police arrested a 25-year-old suspect for possession of property suspected to be stolen

“Last Wedensday, at about 7am, the victim was driving along Bellair Road when he spotted a vehicle that fitted the description of his hijacked vehicle. He followed the vehicle till it entered the Public Works premises. The complainant called the police and constables LJ Dlamini and MG Maphumulo responded. The vehicle was recovered and a suspect, who is an employee at Public Works, was arrested for being in possession of property suspected to be stolen. He was detained at SAPS Mayville police cells,” explained Ngwane.

According to the 38 year old hijack victim, two weeks earlier he was outside his home in his black Mercedes Benz when four armed men allegedly attacked him and threatened him with firearms and forced him inside his vehicle. “They then drove with him and later dropped him off in Umlazi. The suspects drove away with his vehicle. A case of carjacking was opened at SAPS Cato Manor,” Zwane said.

The Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel WB Luthuli commended the police for quick response and the manner in which the victim handled the

situation.
