eThekwini hosts Parks Summit

The Parks Summit will cover a range of parks and green space topics and challenges while seeking to identify solutions.

PARKS and green spaces will come under discussion at the eThekwini Parks Summit which takes place on Thursday 29 September from 8am to 12.30pm at the Durban Botanic Gardens Visitors Complex.

The summit will cover a range of parks and green space topics and challenges while seeking to identify solutions and opportunities to improve capacity, service delivery, good governance and civic action in public parks and urban reserves.

Green space is the City’s vital asset that sustains urban biodiversity and human well-being and is important for fostering a socially cohesive society.

As cities around the globe rapidly grow and develop, the challenges facing the future of public open space and particularly green space are both complex and immense. New and innovative ways need to be found that invoke a new understanding of how to better access, celebrate and care for the City’s parks and urban green spaces.

The Parks Summit forms part of a series of programmes and events during the Parks, Recreation and Culture Week of 2016.

The Summit is open to the public, including organisations and individuals who are actively concerned about the future of our parks and urban green spaces.

The summit will cover a broad range of topics including the City’s Green Strategy, Urban Parks and the Green Economy and Social Challenges, Managing Road Side Ecology: Value of Verges and Go Durban.
