New wheels for Highway Hospice

An annual Barloworld golf day has once again raised enough funds to purchase vehicles for Highway Hospice.

HIGHWAY Hospice was thrilled to receive a donation of two new cars to be used for its home care department.

According to Johno Olds from the Highway Hospice, an rewarding relationship has existed between Barloworld Ford and The Highway Hospice for the last 34 years.

“The Ford dealerships in Pinetown and Pietermaritzburg, under the guidance and coordination of Errol Cave and his family host an annual golf day, not your run of the mill golf day mind you, an experience which includes family, fun and a magic sprinkling of golf and generosity,” he said.

This year the event raised a staggering R300 000 from the everyday heroes and philanthropic businesses represented over the weekend.

“The funding has been traditionally used to boost the home care department vehicle fleet. Reliable cars are always needed to get our nurses to the patients and families we serve. They carry our most precious nurses, so Barloworld has been an important partner for us over the years,” said Linda Webb, CEO of the Highway Hospice.

She said the Cave family had served as conduit, event planners and master of ceremonies for all these years.

Errol Cave said: “This has become a family affair, the youngsters are going to keep the tradition going as this is an important community need which needs to be met.”

He said he was humbled by the participation and generosity of all involved in raising the funds.
