Umbilo’s lost boy reunited with parents

A week after Umbilo SAPS appealed to the public to assist in finding the parents of a young boy, the child was reunited with his parents.

THE young boy who was found wandering in Umbilo last week has been reunited with his parents.

According to Captain Pumzile Makaula of Umbilo SAPS, the boy, who is about 8 years old, was brought into the station by a community member who found him in Grosvenor Road, Umbilo. “We made an appeal to the community to help us find his parents because the boy did not respond when spoken to and we were unable to establish where the boy had come from,” added Makaula.

The appeal went viral on social media and on Monday the boy was reunited with his family.

The parents of the boy had approached Bellair police for assistance in locating their boy who has a mental illness and their appeals also went viral on social media.

Speaking to Berea Mail, the father of the boy said, “It has been a nightmare of a week since he went missing on Tuesday, we are very relieved but still have paperwork to go through with the social worker so he is still at the place of safety. We are hoping to have him home before the end of the week.”

“We appreciate what the community member did by bringing the boy to the police station and are happy he was reunited with his family,” Makaula added.
