Musgrave ‘parking lot’ baby gets a fighting chance

Three weeks after a baby was found abandoned behind the wheel of a parked vehicle at Musgrave Centre, Berea Mail visited the baby to check on his progress.

NEARLY three weeks after he was found behind the rear wheel of a car parked at a Musgrave’s second level, the baby who was once abandoned by his parents is now in a loving safe home in the greater Berea with a fighting chance at a better life.

Berea Mail visited the fiesty baby boy, who is now about a month old on Tuesday morning to check on his progress at the home. The baby firmly wrapped his little hands around our reporter’s finger, showing us he is a true fighter, a far cry from the abandoned baby who was found in a plastic packet last month. “He is a very happy, alert healthy boy,”said one of his crisis parents. She told us the baby had a few health issues after he was found and spent a little time in hospital. His social worker is now working on all his paperwork and his crisis mum is confident that hopefully, “within the next few months, he will be adoptable and joining his forever family!”

“We are going to love his past away and love him into his bright future. He is so beautiful and we feel very lucky to have him part of our life, even if it’s just for a few months,”added the crisis mum.

The home looks after abandoned babies until they can be adopted. The crisis mum expained that there is “quite a process” before a baby can be adopted. “We as crisis parents advocate for each child that comes into our care. We believe every child should be part of a family no matter their background – and not grow up in orphanages. We have been doing this for four years and have had 36 babies to date. Our very first baby we fell in love with and adopted him – you fall in love with them all but when you meet their forever family and know you have played a part in creating that family, it is an amazing feeling and makes letting them go a little easier,”she added.
