Eleven injured as bakkie crashes

The injured had been sitting in the back of the bakkie.

ELEVEN people, including three children, sustained various injuries when the vehicle they were traveling in crashed through the west bound barrier on the M25 in KwaMashu and landed on the east bound carriageway on Saturday.

According to Wener Vermaak of ER24, at approximately 6.10pm paramedics arrived to find the bakkie in the road. Several people were lying near the bakkie on the road’s’ surface. One person was in a critical condition.

“Ten others, including three children aged between 7 and 9 years old, were found with various injuries. They were all assessed and treated on the scene before being transported to Mahatma Ghandi District Hospital. One person was transported to Addington Hospital,” he said.

It is believed that most of the people were sitting in the back of the bakkie when they were ejected.

The exact cause of the incident is not yet known.
