Security upped around matric exam papers

The Department of Education will have matric exam papers for 2016 printed in-house in an effort to stop cheating.

THE 2016 matric exam papers will be printed in-house under tighter security measures in an effort to prevent cheating in this year’s exams. So said Education MEC Mthandeni Dlunbwane at the launch of the 50-day countdown to the start of this year’s matric exams in Umlazi yesterday.

He said officials who had relatives who would be writing the exams would not be exposed to the question papers beforehand. The stricter measures come in the wake of last year’s findings after 12 schools int he province were implicated in a group copying scandal.

The MEC said the Department was sure the 2016 results would be an improvement on last year and was expecting that a 10 per cent increase in the pass rate would be achieved.

He said the department was determined to support pupils with special camps and extra study materials and said it had agreed to increase its intake for a special boot camp for pupils who showed promise which takes place between 9 and 23 October.
