POLICE in the Umbilo policing area are warning the community of their zero tolerance approach to drunken driving.
Captain Pumzile Makaula, Umbilo police communications officer said in the early hours of Sunday, a man was arrested for drunken and reckless driving after he allegedly caused an accident involving three vehicles. “Officers at the scene allege the man could not stand when he got out of his vehicle and was immediately arrested,” she added
Student’s books, bag recovered
A student was lucky to have her study material and bag recovered after she was robbed on Sunday afternoon.
Captain Pumzile Makaula, communications officer at Umbilo SAPS said the student was waiting for her lift at UKZN’s Gate 10 on Rick Turner Road when two men approached her. “One suspect asked her if she knew one of the security guards, before he allegedly grabbed her bag with study books. The student screamed and a passing Metro Police van stopped to assist and caught the man,” Makaula explained.
The two suspects were arrested for common robbery and detained at Umbilo SAPS.
Man arrested for drug possession
Umbilo police officers arrested a man for possession of drugs on Sunday afternoon.
According to Captain Pumzile Makaula, communications officer at Umbilo SAPS, officers received information about a man selling drugs at an address on Umbilo Road. “The officers went to the address and found the man in possession of the drugs when they searched him. The suspect tried put up a fight and officers called for backup and he was arrested,” she explained.
