POLICE have confirmed the man who was shot after heavily armed robbers cornered him in Overport on Wednesday, has died as a result of his injuries.
According to KZN police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Magudulela, the security guard (40) was returning from the bank when he was accosted by four armed suspects. “The suspects opened fire before taking an undisclosed amount of cash. The victim sustained two gunshot wounds on the left arm and left side of the body,” he explained.
The security guard was rushed to hospital in a critical condition. “Charges of armed robbery, attempted murder and murder are being investigated by Mayville police. No arrests have been made at this stage,” Magudulela said.
CCTV footage of the attack went viral on social media soon after the incident was reported.
