Hijackers drive off with Glenwood man

Blue Security warns residents to be alert when arriving or leaving home after a man was hijacked in his garage in Brand Road.

A GLENWOOD man was taken on a nightmare drive with hijackers who ambushed his family in their garage on Monday night.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said the man, his wife and baby were in the garage in Brand Road about to go out in their vehicle at around 7.45pm when hijackers driving a Blue Jetta PXY549GP pulled up.

“The resident’s wife managed to run to safety with their baby when she saw an armed hijacker approaching them. But the hijacker held up her husband and drove off with him inside the vehicle,” he said.

Jackson said a neighbour had sounded the alarm by pressing a panic button.

“The hijackers later dropped him off unharmed near Queen Nandi Drive, north of Durban, where the police picked him up,” he said.

Durban Central SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

Jackson advised residents to be alert when arriving and leaving home as criminals often stake out properties before striking with prime times for hijackings being in the early morning and evening.

“If you notice any suspicious individuals or vehicles parked near your property report it to the police, your security company and your neighbourhood watch. Proactive policing deters criminal activity and criminals will often move on to another area when they perceive that the risk of being caught in your street has been heightened,” he said.
