Women’s league marches against abuse

The St Anne's Catholic Women's League held a march against abuse and a fun day on Sunday.

THE St Anne’s Catholic Women’s League Family Day, held in Sydenham on Sunday, is an annual event aimed at raising awareness on the abuse of women and children as well as social ills such as drugs, alcohol abuse and addiction which affect families.

The event was attended by hundreds of community members who were eager to take a stand against abuse. Entrance to the walk was R50 with all proceeds going to the St Theresa’s School. The theme of the event was “fight back with the weapon of prayer.”

“It is always inspiring to see the community come together to fight against the things that are tearing our community apart. Together, as a community, and working with the police, we can beat abuse and addiction,” said newly elected Councillor Chris Pappas who was in attendance.

He thanked all the organisers for making it such a success.
