Ward councillors Martin Meyer and Christopher Pappas thanked the community for the confidence in them after being voted in to run the wards.

DEMOCRATIC Alliance ward councillors Martin Meyer and Christopher Pappas have a lot to celebrate after winning their wards in yesterday’s municipal elections.

Thanking people on social media this morning, Martin Meyer, Ward 27 councillor said although results were not official, with all the ward’s votes counted, he could unofficially thank the community for electing him to represent the ward for another five years on council.

“I am aware what a huge responsibility this is and want to thank all of you who went out to vote. Whether you voted for me or not, I represent you and have a responsibility to you. So I ask you: keep me on my toes. Keep in touch with me and let’s work together to improve our ward and our city,” he said.

He urged residents of the ward to contact him on 078 729 8768 or ward27@ethekwini.org.

Christopher Pappas, who took ward 31 in the elections, said on social media that he was humbled to accept the vote of confidence by the communities of Overport, Musgrave and Sydenham.

“Thank you. Ward 31 in eThekwini will remain a DA ward and I will honour your trust in me by working as hard as I can and by putting your interests ahead of mine,” he said.

Pappas said he aimed to work with the community to take this very diverse community forward, to make progress and effect change that builds harmony and community involvement.

The results of ward 33 have not been released as votes are still being counted.
